Jannie Baltzer

Jannie Baltzer is passionate about weddings, from her beginnings in Denmark her designs have now featured across the globe and are a sort after couture piece for the contemporary bride. I spoke to Jannie on her return from NYC to find out more about the sensation that is Jannie Baltzer Couture.

EM: Can you give us a little history about your designs, from where you started to today, what inspires you etc?

I design couture headpiece and accessories for the fashion-forward bride, who is looking for something unique and different.

My inspiration comes from the details of past eras; The French Bohemianism of the early 1900’s, the details of the Art Deco movement and the glamour of 1920´s Hollywood, which is expressed in the luxurious materials such as: French lace, Edwardian Lace, silk and soft chiffon.  I love to see old movies from the 1920´s & 1930´s, where the women were so glamorous and chic.

I only use handmade flowers, and all the bead work is handcrafted with beautiful Preciosa crystals and pearls at my studio in Copenhagen. I love to use interesting pieces of vintage to add whimsy and magic, and to get a unique one of a kind piece.

I graduated from the Scandinavian Academy of International Fashion and Design in Copenhagen, receiving an honorary prize from Her Royal Highness Princess Benedict for the most creative collection.

EM: Tell us being a designer in Copenhagen?

Denmark has a really big design tradition, and I am happy to be a part of a younger generation of designers, that want to make it big worldwide. Danish design is known the world over and Denmark has been a leading nation in the design field for decades. From Danish furniture to Danish fashion, Denmark continues to design world-renowned design classics. So it is very easy to be inspired by the many talented and innovative designers here in Denmark.

EM: What’s been the most significant part of your career to date?

The last couple of years have been amazing, and having seen my accessories featured in VOGUE, ELLE, Harper´s Bazaar & Cosmopolitan was a big moment for me. I have also been lucky enough to work with some extremely talented photographers, stylists, editors, bloggers and planners from all over the world, and that is something, I really enjoy!

EM: You have just been in NYC for a week, tell us about that?

I was invited by the legendary Henri Bendel on 5th Avenue to showcase my 2014 collection. It was an amazing experience to show my new collection at this iconic Boutique, and I had such a wonderful time. I met many wonderful brides to be, bloggers and editors, and the Henri Bendel team made me feel so welcome. NYC is one of my favourite Cities, and as a designer a city where I can get inspired all the time.

EM: Where to for the future, what is Jannie Baltzer’s big vision

I feel very happy, where I am at the moment. My company is really growing, and I am super excited about the future. I am currently working on a small unique jewellery collection for the fashion forward woman, and I can´t wait to launch it next year.

Soon I will be working on my 2015 collection, which I hope, will be launched at New York Bridal Market October 2015.
